Drake

MN Mixed-Breed Dog

Veterinarian: Dr. Lisa Mason, Florida Veterinary Rehabilitation

HISTORY –

Before being adopted, Drake suffered a broken femur and underwent a femoral head ostectomy (FHO). Over time, this led to weight shifting, first to his left hind limb and then forward, ultimately causing discomfort in his left elbow.

Seeking the best course of action, his owner consulted orthopedic surgeons at UF and AVS to discuss potential surgical options, including a hip replacement or elbow arthroscopy. However, given Drake’s age and the severity of his arthritis, the specialists were uncertain about the likelihood of a successful outcome.

Drake then began rehabilitation with Dr. Mason at Florida Veterinary Rehabilitation, where he underwent shock wave therapy, acupuncture, and underwater treadmill sessions. During these sessions, they explored different joint injection options, ultimately deciding that Spryng® would be the best fit for him based on its potential benefits.

DIAGNOSIS –

  • Chronic Joint Pain & Osteoarthritis (Post-FHO)

TREATMENTS -

  • Drake received Spryng® injections with OsteoCushion® Technology to support his joints and improve mobility.

OUTCOME -

  • Drake showed immediate improvement following treatment, no longer favoring his left front elbow.

  • He moved more comfortably, especially when getting up and down.

  • His recovery was smooth and quick, with minimal downtime.

  • According to his owner, “You wouldn’t have known he had any procedures done! He handled them very well post-op.
